Why Financial Literacy Matters
The 2026 TIAA Institute–GFLEC Personal Finance Index found that Gen Z answered only 38% of financial-literacy questions correctly. Adults who had received financial education scored 13 percentage points higher than those who had not.
These findings highlight the importance of giving young people practical financial knowledge before they enter adulthood.

Financial literacy isn't just about money—it's about preparing young people to confidently manage bank accounts, build credit, avoid debt, create budgets, save for emergencies, and make informed financial decisions throughout adulthood. Financial Futures of Arkansas helps bridge that gap by providing free, engaging financial education workshops using the FDIC Money Smart curriculum.
